Neuromuscular Therapy
Neuromuscular Therapy is used in combination with other treatments to improve postural alignment, the functions of muscles, joints and biomechanics of the body.
Neuromuscular Therapy, applies concentrated thumb/finger pressure to "trigger points" to break cycles of muscle spasm and pain. Trigger points are painful irritated areas in muscle, congested spots of muscle tissue, and areas of restricted blood flow; these can put pressure on nerves, which may radiate pain to other areas. Treatment helps to normalise and eliminate the dysfunction.
Often my clients who suffer from chronic pain tell me they have been to other health-care professionals with little or no result. As a Neuromuscular Therapist, I am the first person to have touched on and sourced the cause of their radiating pain and treated it successfully. I have had great success treating Piriformis Syndrome which mimics Sciatic pain. By deactivating Trigger points deep in the hip people have finally found relief from there chronic pain.
Having gathered a case history, performed some muscle testing and a postural assessment, I decide how best to treat the client. I also like to give the client some stretches and strengthening exercises to do. I also inform them how better to hold their posture or how to improve posture at work and in their free-time.
Sports massage
Sports Massage is increasingly regarded by professional athletes and coaches as playing an essential role in enhancing athletic performance and preventing injury. Sports Massage increases flexibility and range of movement. This results in a faster healing process and has the unique benefit of breaking down scar tissue, which can otherwise lead to reduced tissue mobility. Sports massage can prevent injury through early detection of muscle dysfunction. It also promotes faster recovery after training and competition at both physical and psychological levels.
Benefits of Sports Massage
Restores & helps to maintain full ranges of movement. Increased flexibility is achieved by stretching & relaxing muscles. Reduces the likelihood of injury during exercise by treating potential problems before they develop. Aids the healing process, speeding up recovery & rehabilitation after injury. Reduces scar tissue. Relieves stress & tension which may prevent the achievement of optimum performance. General relaxation is enhanced. Relieves pain by stimulating the brain to release endorphins, & by relaxing spasm, tension & stiffness. Aids recovery after hard exercise, helping the athlete to increase training volume Examples of sports injuries that can benefit from sports massage treatment are sprains, strains, Achilles tendonitis, Runners' knee, shin splints, Tennis/Golfer's elbow, plantar fasciitis, piriformis syndrome & tight muscles generally.
